Quick Guide to Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure which can help to improve the size and the shape of the breasts to achieve a desired appearance. During the procedure, small incisions are made and the implant shell is inserted either beneath the existing breast tissue or beneath the chest muscles. The incisions may be made in a variety of different locations including under the breast, in or around the areola, in the armpit or in the umbilical area. Once the implant shell is inserted, it is filled with a saline solution to produce the desired fullness.

There are risks associated with breast augmentation surgery. These risks include infection, capsular contracture, deflation, contour irregularities or general dissatisfaction. Additionally, risks associated with any type of surgery or with anesthesia also exist including hematoma, seroma or thrombosis. Although risks cannot be completely eliminated they can be minimized by selecting a well qualified plastic surgeon and following all post operative instructions carefully.
